Mission Statement
“Supporting Teachers in Information and Communication Technology”
As the Educational Technology Council of the Alberta Teachers’ Association, we are committed to providing service, support, professional development and recognition for our members through teamwork, effective communication and our excellent annual conference. The Educational Technology Council provides its membership with:
service and support through professional development opportunities;effective communication through an informative newsletter, listserv and dynamic website; andan authoritative voice on behalf of the teaching profession through the advocacy of sound educational policies relating to ICT infusion and emerging technologies.

Vision Statement
The Educational Technology Council of the Alberta Teachers’ Association will be recognized provincially, nationally and internationally, as a leader in educational technology.

Objectives
The objective of the Educational Technology Council (ETC) of the Alberta Teachers’ Association is to support teachers in using technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Activities
The ETC is committed to providing service, support, professional development and recognition for its members through teamwork, effective communication and an excellent annual conference. The ETC provides its membership with service and support through professional development opportunities; effective communication through an informative newsletter, listserv and dynamic website; and an authoritative voice on behalf of the teaching profession through the advocacy of sound educational policies relating to information and communication technology infusion and emerging technologies. In addition, the ETC offers two awards to experienced teachers: The Innovative Computer Project Grant, which supports innovative projects involving technology in education. The Edna Dach Educator of the Year Award, which recognizes an outstanding teacher in the field of educational technology.

Professional Activities
ETC carries out a wide range of activities, including providing a strong voice that advocates sound
education decisions,
• holding events and workshops,
• promoting professional liaison and networking with postsecondary institutions,
• promoting inservices and technology-related services in schools throughout the province,
• encouraging and assisting in the establishment of regional councils and
• suggesting resource personnel for conventions, regional events and local workshops.

The Newsletter and the Website
Members/subscribers of ETC regularly receive the Bits and Bytes newsletter, which provides information on council activities and concerns. The newsletter also features articles with useful ideas on teaching strategies and the integration of technology into the curriculum.

The ETC website (www.etcata.ca) provides up-to-date information on events, resources and links. The website also provides information to help teachers incorporate the Alberta ICT outcomes into their classroom activities. In addition, members have online access to information and conference registration, and can participate in an online members-only e-forum.

Grants
Council members can apply for an Innovative Computer Project (ICP) grant to support action-research projects
on technology in education.

Publications
The ETC publishes the Bits and Bytes e-newsletter.
